Our mission is to promote all forms of Nordic skiing as a healthy activity for all ages and abilities. Among our core activities are maintaining and grooming over 140 kilometers of ski trails for recreation and touring, as well as performance skiing and racing.
Serving Anchorage's Nordic ski community requires the year-round commitment of a small but dedicated staff, hundreds of hard-working volunteers, and a fleet of specialized heavy equipment. More importantly, the generous support of our members and donors is what
makes all of this possible.

Saturday, April 20, 11:53am, * Hillside Update 1:00 pm*

Have you been enjoying the AWESOME skiing this Spring?  We know you have!  The days are sunny and the condition of the trails couldn't be better.  If you are feeling moved to upgrade your membership in NSAA or if you'd just like an opportunity to donate, here is a quick and easy way to reach us.  We appreciate our members and we thank you for a great season!

As promised, Matt was out last night and groomed the Lake Loop and the Horseshoe.  He set new track on the majority of the Lake Loop .  He said there were a few steep up-hills heading toward Niagra where he pulled the track due to sugar snow over ice.  On Horseshoe there were a couple sections on a down hill where some brown spots were showing up.  He threw some snow over them, however, he expects the sun will continue to degrade those areas today.  By the way, no tracks have been set on the Horseshoe, so it's open for skating for the remainder of the season.

This morning, Craig groomed the Mize, Sisson, Snow Making Loop, Old 6, Ice Box and Hairpin.  He noted the tracks are starting to get a little spotty as we're losing our base, but about 80% of the track on the trails are holding and in good shape.
He also wanted to mention that on the Lekisch there are a few dirt spots showing up and that ALL the tunnels are now filled with ice and water.  So, ski with caution.

FRIDAY:   Mize, Elliot's Climb to World Cup and back down, Jodhpur, Lekisch 2.9 and Margaux's.

Tom has groomed the skate lanes on the Lighted Loops, Double Bubble and the Spencer.  He set new track on the Gasline, Service High Jr. Nordic Loop and Randy's.
The Richter and Ridge are now groomed for both freestyle and classic until the end of the season.
The grooming efforts at APU have come to an end as accessibility is a challenge.  Meanwhile, the trails on the Hillside are in excellent shape for both classic and skating.  Have fun!

This morning Bill made a very slow pass on the skate lanes on the Christy LoopStadium, Train Ride, Old Lighted, High Rd., Hill Loop, Mainstreet, Swamp and around the Chalet.  There are still tracks on all the trails and most of them are in reasonable shape...perhaps a bit icy.   With the current conditions the tracks will remain "as is" for the rest of the season, however, he'll make repairs as needed.  Enjoy!
