Our mission is to promote all forms of Nordic skiing as a healthy activity for all ages and abilities. Among our core activities are maintaining and grooming over 140 kilometers of ski trails for recreation and touring, as well as performance skiing and racing.
Serving Anchorage's Nordic ski community requires the year-round commitment of a small but dedicated staff, hundreds of hard-working volunteers, and a fleet of specialized heavy equipment. More importantly, the generous support of our members and donors is what
makes all of this possible.

Wednesday, December 26, 3:30 p.m. Update 9:30 p.m.

Well...we didn't get much snow from that last system, but we're still hopeful!

KINCAID - Craig

Craig was on Kincaid earlier this morning and said that there was only about 1 inch of new snow.  So, he groomed the Mize, Lekisch, Margaux's, and the Jodphur lighted loops.  He also created a "European" experience to change things up a bit by setting the track on the left side of the trail instead of the right.  This doesn't mean that the direction has changed...just ski on the left.

9:15 p.m.
Matt is out tonight working on Kincaid and has groomed Elliot's Climb, World Cup, Easy Street, the "S" turns back to the lighted loop and the Multi-use trail.  He also went over the Horseshoe with double track.  Yay Matt!

CHUGIAK/EAGLE RIVER - Bill

Bill was on the trails at Beach Lake where a lot of people were out taking advantage of the light dusting of snow and maybe trying out some new skis?;)  He went out to cut some brush and planned to groom, but will go back later tonight when there is less traffic.  He mentioned that on Mama's by the bridge there is an overflow problem, so please be aware in that area.

9:15 p.m.
Bill made it over to ER High School and Yosemite Dr. and scratched up the trails.  He said there was more snow there than at Beach Lake, so that was nice.  A concerned citizen called the police thinking he was someone going for a joyride on the ski trails on his snow machine.  She actually came out and apologized profusely once she found out he was grooming them.  He got a good chuckle out of that and made a new friend!:)

He is now working at Beach Lake as the crowd has subsided.

HILLSIDE - Tom

Tom just called and said that the Hillside got 2-3" of new snow depending on what trail you are on.  He groomed the whole park with the exception of the Richter loop.  He went over the Spencer once and everything else twice,  since there has been so much traffic.

He was on his way to groom part of the Tour of Anchorage trail to Tudor Rd.  It's been a while since he's groomed that because it's a pretty rough trail and when we have as little snow as we do, it's really hard on the equipment.  In fact, last time he groomed it, it tore up his cutter bar.  Bummer!  So, hopefully, with this new snow it will be a little more forgiving and allow Tom to smooth it up a bit.  Thank you so much for your patience and understanding.
